Create Your Own Program

The Fribourg Institute also partners with universities to deliver Institute-standard or custom-designed study abroad programs to their students. Faculty bring their expertise and course vision, while we provide the logistical framework and in-country infrastructure to make it possible.

What We ProvideWhat Faculty Provide
  • Pre-departure support: access to our application portal, insurance registration, travel guidance, and administrative tools
  • In-country logistics: student housing, program travel, speaker coordination, institutional access, and on-the-ground staff support
  • Post-travel coordination: transcript processing and academic documentation through the University of Fribourg
  • Course design and academic leadership (or deliver our standard content)
  • Personnel to teach and evaluate coursework (domestically and in country)
  • A vision for how students will benefit from the program

The result is a seamless collaboration that allows faculty to focus on academics while we handle the logistics, networking, and speakers abroad. This model has already proven successful: our own programs grew out of a faculty-led initiative that evolved into a lasting partnership with the University of Fribourg.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does it cost for an institution to partner with the Fribourg Institute?

There is no cost to establish a referral partnership. Institutions simply guide interested students through their own study abroad processes while we handle program delivery.

  • How does credit transfer work?

Students receive an official transcript from the University of Fribourg (12 ECTS credits = ~ 6 U.S. credits). We provide syllabi and supporting documentation to registrars and advisors.

  • Can our faculty be involved?

Yes. We welcome collaboration with faculty members, particularly in areas of advising, pre-departure orientation, integration of program content into home curricula, or in-country program leadership. Institutions may also work with us to design custom faculty-led programs, with the Fribourg Institute providing logistical, academic, and in-country support.

  • Do you provide marketing support?

Yes. We share a toolkit with graphics, flyers, and text that can be used in campus communications and advising sessions. Please see links to the resources on this page above.

  • How do you support student safety and well-being?

All students are covered by comprehensive CISI health and travel insurance and have access to 24/7 on-call staff support. We also provide detailed pre-departure guidance on health, safety, and cultural adjustment.

  • Is there a minimum number of students required for a custom program?

No minimum is required for referral partnerships. For custom faculty-led programs, we work with institutions to set an enrollment threshold that makes the program viable while keeping it accessible to right-sized cohorts.
