Frequently Asked Questions About How To Prepare For Your Journey
Do I need a visa to study in Switzerland?
U.S. citizens do not need a visa for short-term study abroad programs in Switzerland. If you are a student from outside the U.S., please check the requirements for your home country. Our staff can provide supporting documentation if needed.
What airport should I fly into?
Most students fly into either Geneva (GVA) or Zurich (ZRH), both major international airports. From there, it’s an easy train ride to Fribourg, and we’ll provide guidance to make your arrival smooth.
What should I bring for classes?
Pack a laptop, notebooks, and writing utensils for assignments, plus any readings provided before departure. Reliable Wi-Fi is available on campus, so you’ll want your laptop handy for research, writing, and group projects.
Will I have support when I arrive?
Absolutely. From helping you navigate by train from the airport to Fribourg, to welcoming you onto campus, to getting you settled into housing, our staff is here to ensure your arrival is stress-free. You’ll never be on your own to figure things out.
How should I plan for meals, money, and everyday living?
Weekday breakfasts and lunches, plus 2-3 group dinners, are included in your program fee. For other evenings and both weekends, you’ll want to budget for meals, snacks, and personal travel. Most places in Switzerland and Europe accept credit/debit cards, but it’s helpful to carry some Swiss francs for small purchases. Grocery stores, cafés, and restaurants are all within walking distance of campus housing.
